Personal Interests

Thirty years as Scoutmaster with numerous Eagle Scouts in our troop; many years serving in the Mormon Church, active service on Boards of Directors and Boards of Trustees of community organizations including the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, Maryland Governor’s Wellmobile, Quality Health Strategies, Backstage Library Works, Quality Health Foundation (the grant-giving arm of the QHS), and the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Health Cost and Quality. Dr. Merrill enjoys boating on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and inland waterways of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Biography

Dr. Roger Merrill graduated with a BA in Physics, magna cum laude, from the University of Utah. He then received his MD from the Medical College of Virginia (Virginia Commonwealth University) and completed his residency in Internal Medicine Medical College of Virginia and Wilmington (DE) Medical Center.

Dr. Merrill of Internal Medicine in Salisbury, MD. Dr. Merrill has also served as Chief Medical Officer at Perdue Farms, a $7 billion food, and agricultural products business with 20,000 employees and 35,000 total covered lives. He has served in numerous capacities at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center (a 350-bed tertiary center) to include Chief of the Medical Staff and Member of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Merrill is a sought after speaker on numerous topics of health policy including patient-centered medical homes, value-based insurance design, or VBID (evidence-driven medical plans), industrial on-site medical clinics, abuse and overuse of medical services, the Choosing Wisely® campaign, and direct contracting for optimum medical outcomes. These presentations have been before audiences as varied as the American Academy of Family Physicians annual meeting (as Keynote speaker), the World Health Congress, and the National Business Group on Health.
